Minutes-October 21, 2007

NYCYPAA Meeting
10/21/07 4PM-6PM

I. Opening
A. Meeting opened with Serenity Prayer.
B. Jared read the Twelve Traditions.

II. Introductions and Roll Call:
A. Attendance.
- Present: Laura, Jared, Janusz, Josh, Darren, Tim, Catya, Erin, Bob, Sabrina.
- Absent with notice: Brian, Mandi, Daniel, Kristy, Cory, Tiffany.
- Absent without notice: Fran.

III. Reports:

A. Secretary (Brian absent – Sabrina proxies)
- 10/07/07 minutes are read and accepted.
- We need to remember to pay for the PO Box in February.
- One of the keys was lost. Brian will look into what it will take to replace it.

B. Treasurer (Darren)
- $1,600 on deposit.
- $118.13 = cash on hand.
- Rent fund: $130+.
- Checkbook came!!! Expenses will be paid by check now to have a paper record.
- Laura and Darren are presently the only two co-signers.
- Our bylaws state that there can be three possible co-signers: Treasurer, Chair, and Co-chair. Josh will need to fill out a signer card and submit photocopies of two forms of ID to become a cosigner.
- No word yet from the 49th ICYPAA Treasurer about a finances report.

C. Co-Chair (Josh)
- Daniel, Darren, and he shot more video last Sunday.
- We will have a speaker from Toronto at our Nov. 17th Dance in addition to the speaker from Maryland.
- Working on acquiring a speaker from Boston.
- Should we see if there is a speaker available from the NECYPAA host committee?
- Josh and Catya will ask Fran if she can look into it.

D. Events (Daniel absent – Laura proxies)
- There will be an events meeting on Thursday, November 1st after “Legal.”

E. Outreach (Jared)
- Jared passed out more forms to see which meetings NYCYPAA members attend and could potentially outreach to.
- There are 25 other meetings that people do not currently attend that we should be outreaching to regularly.
- Laura was contacted by a girl in the HMB area.
- After receiving our last outreach email, she contacted Laura about gathering experience from the NYCYPAA committee so they could form a YPAA conference committee in HMB. They want to come to our elections to see how it all works.

F. Bid Package (Catya)
- Still needs to donate a bid book to the SENY Archives chair.

G. Bid Facilities (Fran absent)
- Laura will check in with her.

H. SENY Liaison (Mandi absent)
- Nothing to report.

I. Intergroup (Tiffany absent – Laura proxies)
- Phone answering commitment this month when really well.
- Next phone answering commitment on Saturday, November 11th.
- In need of a host and someone to coordinate since she will not be able to attend.

J. Rikers (Sabrina)
- Still gaining and losing chairs. It’s getting better, but still confusing and a lot of coordinating!

K. Graphics (Cory absent – Laura proxies)
- There have been some problems ordering business cards.
- Cory will look into finding a solution.
- Dance flyer finished.
- Laura will ask about producing tickets for the November 17th Dance.

L. Web (Tim)
- Elections flyer and Dance flyer are now available for download.
- Minutes are up to date.

M. Literature (Erin)
- Nothing to report.
- Will continue to bring 3 New Member Packets to every NYCYPAA meeting.

N. Prayer (Kristy absent)

IV. Announcements
- NYCYPAA General Elections will be Sunday, November 4th.
- Bronx / Upper Manhattan Share-A-Day – Saturday November 3rd.
- Tiffany & Jared will speak at the YPAA panel & NYCYPAA will have an outreach table all day.
- Next NYS Convention Planning Meeting is on Saturday, November 17th at 11:00am at the SENY Office.
- NYCYPAA “Plain Ordinary Whoopee Party” – Saturday, November 17th at Jan Hus Church.
- NYCYPAA Committee Inventory – Sunday, December 9th at 4:00pm.
- Please submit feedback forms by Sunday, December 2nd.
- The Dr.’s Program still needs volunteers. If interested, call Dorothy.
- YES will meet at the VA hospital starting the first Saturday in December.
- There has been a complaint from the VA about untidiness of rooms from AA groups. Although we may not be a part of the problem, let’s make sure to leave this room cleaner than when we found it.

V. Old Business
A. Video Submissions
- Darren passed around an edited version of footage shot last week.
- If people are satisfied with the direction, we can continue to shoot in this way.

Ideas:
- Asking some of our favorite speakers to come in for a 15 minute shoot.
- We can use music that falls into public domain.
- We should ask more questions about what it’s like to be sober.
- We could film interactions between multiple people.
- We have confirmed space to shoot video at our dance on November 17th.
- We are going to meet every Sunday @ 2:00pm to work on the submission.
- 1st & 3rd Sundays @ the VA – audio and idea discussion only.
- 2nd & 4th Sundays: TBD.
- Next Sunday, October 28th we will meet @ Darren’s apt. in Williamsburg to shoot.
- Darren passed around a sign up sheet for 15-minute time slots.

B. Queens Outreach
- We are postponing our outreach trip to the Whitestone Group until after elections.
- Darren and Daniel were guest speakers at a new District meeting in Queens last week.
- They discussed NYCYPAA’s formation and were asked several questions about YPAA activity.

VI. New Business (NONE)

VII. Closing
- Meeting Closed.
- The Next NYCYPAA meeting will be GENERAL ELECTIONS held on Sunday, November 4th, 2007 @ 4:00pm.
