NYCYPAA Meeting
10/7/07 4PM-6PM

I. Opening
A. Meeting opened with Serenity Prayer.
B. Erik read the Twelve Traditions.

II. Introductions and Roll Call:
A. Attendance.
-Present: Laura, Daniel, John, Erik, Ahmed, Jared, Cory, Janusz, Josh, Darren, Tim, Catya, Tiffany.
- Absent with notice: Brian, Mandi, Erin, Kristy.
- Absent without notice: Sabrina, Fran.

III. Reports:
A. SECRETARY (Brian absent – Daniel proxies)
- 09/16/07 minutes are read and accepted.
- We need to remember to pay for the PO Box in February.
- One of the keys was lost. Brian will look into what it will take to replace it.

B. TREASURER (Darren)
- We have a bank account!
- $1,600 on deposit.
- $102 + change = cash on hand.
- Rent fund: $130.
- No word yet from the 49th ICYPAA Treasurer about a finances report.

C. CO-CHAIR (Josh)
- We will have a speaker from Maryland at our Nov. 17th Dance.
- Video shoot was fun two Sundays ago.

D. EVENTS (Daniel)
- Contract is on the way in for November 17th event.
- We need to choose a name for the Dance. (See old business.)

E. OUTREACH (Jared)
- Rakhel will send Jared materials.
- Jared passed out forms to see which meetings NYCYPAA members attend and could potentially outreach to.

F. BID PACKAGE (Catya)
- Still need to donate a bid book to the SENY Archives chair.

G. BID FACILITIES (Fran absent – Daniel proxies)
- Has been in touch with NYC & Co. They are being more helpful now than they were over the summer.

H. SENY LIAISON (Mandi absent – Janusz proxies)
- There was an assembly on Staten Island yesterday.
- NYCYPAA was well represented.

I. INTERGROUP (Tiffany)
- Phone answering commitment on Saturday, October 13th.
-Sabrina will host.

J. RIKERS (Sabrina absent)
- Laura will check in with her to make sure everything is running smoothly.

K. GRAPHICS (Cory)
- There have been some problems ordering business cards.
- Cory will look into finding a solution.
- Going to start working on a Dance flyer this week.

L. WEB (Tim)
- Elections flyer and a flyer for the NYU Group’s 18th Anniversary are now available for download.

M. LITERATURE (Erin absent – Laura proxies)
- Starting today, 3 new member packets will be available at every NYCYPAA meeting.

N. PRAYER (Kristy absent)

IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Next NYS Convention Planning Meeting is on Saturday, October 13th at 1pm at the SENY Office.
- NYCYPAA General Elections will be Sunday, November 4th.
- BCCYPAA (1st annual British Columbia Convention of YPAA) – Weekend of November 17th.
- NYU Group Anniversary & Dance – Saturday, October 20th @ 6pm (See www.nycypaa.org for flyer.)
- 12th St. Workshop Anniversary & Dance – Saturday, October 27th @ VA Hospital.
- Not a Glum Lot is planning their Thanksgiving weekend event.
- Midnite is throwing a Halloween party.
- There has been a complaint from the VA about untidiness of rooms from AA groups. Although we may not be a part of the problem, let’s make sure to leave this room cleaner than when we found it.
- Please be on time to NYCYPAA. Some chairs are consistently late without an excuse. Please be considerate and be an example to those new to our committee.

V. OLD BUSINESS

A. Name for November 17th Dance.
- Choices:
AA Dance with Us (1 VOTE)
Fall Ball (2 VOTES)
NYCYPAA Homecoming (0 VOTES)
Some variation of: Plain Ordinary Whoopee Party (9 VOTES)
- Discussion of variations of “Plain Ordinary Whoopee Party.
- Will the words "Plain" and "Ordinary" deter people from coming?
- Should we put the page number somewhere on the flyer?

MOTION: To call the Dance: "Plain Ordinary Whoopee Party."
VOTE: 10 in favor, 0 opposed, 2 abstaining.
MOTION PASSES.

B. ICYPAA
- International Outreach:
- Laura has been in contact with her friend from Sweden.
- Catya will reach out to her contacts in Great Britain.
- Janusz just got back from France where he did some research.
- Ahmed is going to London and would be happy to help outreach.
- Continue discussion on the SENY bulletin board.

C. Video Submissions
- 2 weeks ago Darren, Josh and Daniel got together to shoot. Daniel told his story anonymously on video.
- Awkward without an audience.
- Ideas:
Adding images – something to watch while listening: branding & style.
The AA message is in the audio. How can we make visuals that enhance the message?
Green Screen.
Video room @ Dance – Interview attendees.
Adobe after effects / Protools.
Shooting mouths responding to questions.
Shoot people discussing topics.
Sock puppets.
Rotate shooting locations.
Footage vs. edited film.
We are going to meet every Sunday @ 2:00pm to shoot footage.
1st & 3rd Sundays @ the VA.
2nd & 4th Sundays: TBD.
Next Sunday, October 14th we will meet @ Darren’s apt. in Williamsburg to shoot.

VI. New Business

A. Queens Outreach
- We will be attending the Whitestone Group on Saturday, October 27th.
- Laura will email us with all the information.

B. Dr.’s Program
- There has been a request for more young people to participate.
- If you are interested, please call Dorothy.

C. Bronx / Upper Manhattan Share-A-Day: Saturday, November 3rd.
- There will be a YP Panel.
- Need 1 male, 1 female to speak: Tiffany + TBD.
- We might be able to have an outreach table.
- Tiffany will let us know.

D. NYCYPAA Committee Inventory
- We don't want to take time away from our video project or Dance planning.
- Let’s tentatively schedule our inventory for the 2nd Sunday in December: 12/9/07 @ 4:00pm.
- Laura will ask Billy N. if he is available.

VII. Closing
- Meeting Closed.
- The Next NYCYPAA meeting will be held on Sunday, October 21st, 2007 @ 4:00pm.
