Facilitator

Jimmy opened the meeting with an introduction of himself, his general service background and explained the his role in facilitating a group inventory.

He read from the pamphlet “The AA Group” and from the “World Concepts of General Service” and posed questions to the membership, which we spoke on in 2 rounds of 2 min. shares, each.

Comments made were:

- We could do more to involve the other boroughs
- We’re not a diverse group
- Should we send money to service entities?
- We could get involved in the PI and Doctor’s Program

- Concern that so few people consistently show up
- We should travel together to meetings outside Manhattan

- Really proud of our participation with SENY
- Worries about attendance and participation considering how large the YP community in NYC is
- What do we do if we are awarded a conference?

- Diversity? Not so much
- There are a number of ways for us to get involved in CPC & PI stuff
- As long as we have a solid core (of people) we’re OK
- Concern about others seeing us a small group
- How can we work better within the existing service structure

- Co-chairs don’t have anything to do; Chairs aren’t activating them
- Our Events & Outreach committees seem to be collapsing
- Fun stuff pulls people in
- Danger that we could spread ourselves too thin
- Need to involve ourselves with outer boroughs

- Since last session, good things have happened at NYCYPAA – elections have been changed for the better, we’ve incorporated the Bid Com. into the regular committee
- Personality issues have abated; noticed more spirituality in the group
- Main concern is others having to pick up the slack, the work that isn’t being done by others
- Not fair for any one person to have to do everything, and that’s how resentments are formed

- Unity within the service structure; we did a good job at the NYSIW
- Concern about people overextending themselves
- How can we “confront” without offending anyone or coming off as self-righteous?
- Events committee needs help

- Appreciated the value of a core team
- Resentments form over people not doing their jobs
- Maybe it’s good for us to fail once in a while

- Shouldn’t be scared of what we are/are not
- Curious why we don’t attract the people the way LACYPAA does?
- Should feel so bad about failures

- Pleased with the participation we do get
- We have people who are devoted to the committee
- A lot of good came out of the dance venue search
- Events & Outreach bring people in and it hasn’t been happening
- We need figure out how to achieve quality to survive
- It’s OK if someone doesn’t pick up the slack

- Definitely learned from the dance venue experience; it’s not the best idea for one person do everything
- Would love to have a NYCYPAA that’s not just a bunch of white kids from Manhattan
- There are kids in Harlem and the Bronx and everywhere and it’s our job to go out there
- Despite all the nit-picking, we have done a lot of really good things this year
- Looking forward to elections, hoping we get fresh blood and that they stick around – but it’s OK if they don’t

- People don’t know what NYCYPAA is about – it would help if we had flyers
- We should start outreaching to meetings again (meetings we don’t normally attend)
- Loves this committee
