New Business:

Events
Vanessa, elected in absentia, introduces herself.
Monthly speaker meeting and event, which was discussed last week, is her focus. She would like the meeting to be in the same place every month, but have the events travel around the boroughs. She suggests we hold a quarterly dance, interspersed with movie night and/or other events. Purpose of events is to have fun, not make money. It's enough just to sustain the committee and help other alcoholics. Vanessa was events chair for the EACYPAA bid in 2004. She helped put together a scavenger hunt. Vanessa addresses the concern of competing with the young people's groups. She believes that a Saturday afternoon speaker meeting will not be supported. Saturdays are the best days, the same weekend every month. Spiritual breakfast on a Saturday morning.

Discussion:
John thinks we need an event.
Michelle wants to start things at 9pm so that the YES attendees can attend. She thinks loyal YES members wouldn't show to our events.
Vanessa worries that a 9pm start time is too late.
Katya asks about why no dance.
Vanessa responds that a dance shouldn't be the first thing. To get a great dance together will take some time.
Janusz suggests that we start at 7pm, and work in tandem with YES, having the events at the same time, so that we can choose between events.
Darren says we should try to work with YES to use what's great about the existing meetings to launch events.
Vanessa asks YES homegroup members whether they think the group would accommodate NYC YPAA events.
Michelle thinks no.
Vanessa thinks it has to be Saturday, and the YES members might have to choose.
Jessica thinks that the conflict is no big deal and that people will go where they want to go either way.
Phil thinks that we can't just conflict with YES every fourth meeting, that we should rotate the nights of our events.
Vanessa responds that it has to be Saturdays consistently.

Rob calls a Prayer

Mandi thinks we can do something at YES in the bigger basement space.
Janusz thinks asking to merge with NYCYPAA would be a greater threat than holding another meeting at the same time.
Michelle has some ideas: the YES space is used for many things, scheduling would be difficult. If we conflict the meetings and accept that, we can just schedule things so that YES members can get to the events.

John thinks despite the difficulties, Vanessa's idea is a good place to start. Since she's a trusted servant, he would like to have us move forward with the event, and allow her to do her job.

Daniel brings up that we need to consider the budget for the events. Vanessa says we'll make quite a lot in the 7th tradition hat.

Darren suggested that we consider asking SENY or District 601 for support, financial and otherwise.

EACYPAA Report
Katya
People would like New York to host EACYPAA. Buffalo will host next year's convention. But, everyone would love to see New York City bidding and participating. Buffalo would like us to help them with outreach, Katya will be the contact.
Darren
Attended "How to Bid" panel with EACYPAA Advisory Council and the Convention Bid Sessions. Echos Katya that everyone would like to see a NYC bid. Advisory members said that they would consider accepting a bid with a much higher hotel price than normal as long as hotel is in Lower Manhattan. Advisory suggested raising money prior to Convention to pay down the price of the rooms. Get inventive, help hotel consider how to make money from the event.

SENY Convention Report
Daniel
Talked with our delegate Bill C. about young people's issues and NYCYPAA. Bill suggested that we put real energy into the Area Service Structure in order to give young people a voice in AA.
Darren
SENY Convention is a great event. Darren served as SENY Convention Publicity Chair and will participate again next year. Encouraged NYCYPAA to consider a specific relationship to the SENY Convention. Said that we could learn much from SENY and combine with the best of YPAA to make a rad NYC local event. SENYYPAA (see + knee + pa)
